Saint Philip and Saint James, pray for us

Today is the feast day of Saint Philip and Saint James the brother of our Lord on the Western Church’s liturgical calendar. The latter just so happens to be my confirmation saint and patron. The two saints, both apostles and both martyrs, are entombed side-by-side in Rome.

Here is a link to the scripture readings today.

Here is some history on Saint James the brother of our Lord

And here is some history on Saint Philip

Prayer to Saints Philip and James:

Almighty God, who didst give to thine apostles Philip and James grace and strength to bear witness to the truth: Grant that we, being mindful of their victory of faith, may glorify in life and death the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Prayer to Saint James the Brother of our Lord:

Grant, we beseech thee, O God, that after the example of thy servant James the Just, brother of our Lord, thy Church may give itself continually to prayer and to the reconciliation of all who are at variance and enmity; through the same Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever.
